Acclaimed actor Michael B. Jordan is set to put his directorial skills to the test for the second time with a modern take on the classic film, Thomas Crown Affair. This 37-year-old star has been linked to the project since 2016 and has recently confirmed his role as director for the Amazon MGM Studios production. The film will premiere exclusively in cinemas on a global scale.
Jordan will not only direct but also produce the film under his Outlier Society banner, working with Elizabeth Raposo and using a screenplay penned by Drew Pearce. Jordan’s Outlier Society has a first-look film deal and an overall TV deal with Amazon MGM. The team of producers will also feature Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff, as well as executive producer Alan Trustman, the writer of the original 1968 film.
The original Thomas Crown Affair, a product of director Norman Jewison’s vision, starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. McQueen portrayed a billionaire businessman who, driven by ennui, resorts to stealing precious jewels and artworks. Dunaway, on the other hand, plays the detective who unveils his illicit activities.

The Thomas Crown Affair saw its first remake in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan in the role of the billionaire and Renee Russo as the shrewd investigator. The specifics of the plot for Michael B. Jordan’s forthcoming adaptation remain a secret, although Deadline has reported that earlier drafts of the screenplay, based on the original, were crafted by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson before Pearce took over.
Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut was with Creed III, another project in collaboration with MGM.
In conversation with TIME following the success of the boxing film, Jordan expressed his newfound love for directing, saying, “I got the bug. I love it. I’m looking forward to the next time sitting behind the camera.”
