The NY Mets Improbable October Run

The NY Mets improbable October run has been nothing short of amazing. However, according to Mets legend Dwight Gooden, this success wouldn’t be possible without Francisco Lindor. Gooden, speaking with TMZ Sports, believes the 4x All-Star deserves to have the Captain patch added to his uniform.

A Grand Slam to Remember

We caught up with Gooden at Citi Field, where Lindor’s go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning secured the team’s spot in the NLCS. Gooden shared his thoughts on what was going through his mind as Lindor stepped up to the plate.

“You’re just thinking, just make contact,” Doc said. “Just don’t hit it on the ground. A couple of pitches before the home run, he was so late on the fastball that you’re just hoping to make good contact.”

Hard contact was made, and while Gooden wasn’t initially sure it would leave the yard, the stadium erupted in celebration when it did.

Deserving of Recognition

“Couldn’t happen to a better guy,” DG said. “This guy’s been solid. I know he had his personal struggles when he first came to New York. So to see what he’s done this entire year, he’s leading by example.”

So, the question arises: Is Lindor worthy of the “C” being added to his uniform?

According to the World Series champ, the answer is yes.

“This guy plays every day,” he said. “And he plays a demanding position at shortstop. From my perspective and knowing him personally, even when he was in Cleveland, I say he’s definitely deserving. But obviously, it’s not my call, but from outside looking in, I definitely say he’s the guy.”

Potential World Series Matchup

While Mets fans await their next opponents in the NLCS, a potential World Series matchup with their crosstown rivals, the Yankees, is within reach. As a former member of the 2000 W.S. squad that took down the Mets, Gooden would love to see a rematch of the Subway Series.

“I think New York deserves that,” he said. “It could happen. Nobody saw that coming into the season.”
