Stevie Nicks, the showstopper of the night, was about to deliver her second performance on “Saturday Night Live” when sharp-eyed viewers of the popular live television show noticed a glitch. Minutes later, the internet was abuzz with comments and wild guesses about the issue, which it turns out was a technical hiccup that was quickly resolved.

The 50th anniversary episode of “Saturday Night Live”, which featured an Oasis impersonation act and an engaging monologue by host Ariana Grande, was going smoothly until just moments before Grande was about to reintroduce Nicks for her following act. There was a hiccup that led to a display of a billboard of Nicks for nearly 50 seconds as the technical error was addressed. The show then abruptly cut to a commercial break.

Once the technical issue was resolved, Grande came back on stage and reintroduced the living legend. As the iconic guitar intro of “Edge of Seventeen” started playing, Nicks appeared on stage fiddling with her hidden microphone on her right side; however, this little issue in no way impacted the quality of her performance.

This performance on the “SNL” stage wasn’t the first for Nicks. The singer first graced the stage of “Saturday Night Live” 41 years ago, in 1983, when she performed “Nightbird” and “Stand Back” after completing her tour for her album “The Wild Heart.” The host for that particular night was well-known comedian Flip Wilson.

Nicks is also remembered for a classic parody involving her, performed by Lucy Lawless. The skit was titled “Stevie Nicks’ Fajita Roundup,” showing Nicks revealing her next big project. The widely appreciated sketch, aired in 1998, left quite a mark on fans.

When discussing the spoof with The Ringer during an extensive oral history of the fajita sketch, Lawless mentioned quite candidly, “I did not get the joke. Not being from America, barely having ever eaten proper Mexican food, or Tex-Mex or anything.” Lawless even took up her concerns with the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, asking him to dismiss the idea.

In response, Michaels insisted on keeping the sketch in the show, expressing his confidence in it being well-received by the audience. As predicted by Michaels, the skit was a big hit and significantly contributed to the episode’s success.

And so was born a Tex-Mex legend.
