Legal reporter Meghann Cuniff reported that on Tuesday (Dec. 17), Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team submitted a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting a restraining order against Tory Lanez. Megan’s attorney, Mari Henderson, described Tory as a “violent and dangerous criminal” in the court filings, emphasizing that Megan currently lacks formal protection against Tory’s alleged “attacks” since the initial protective order expired in 2023.
The court documents refer to Tory as Mr. Peterson and Megan as Ms. Pete. The filings state that “Mr. Peterson was sentenced to ten years in state prison but continues his campaign of harassment from behind bars.” The documents highlight the concern that without a civil restraining order, Megan will be vulnerable to Mr. Peterson’s actions upon his release, causing her severe emotional distress and fear for her safety.
Megan’s legal team claims that Tory’s ongoing “psychological warfare” against her has had a detrimental impact on her life, leading to depression and estrangement from friends. They also allege that Tory employs bloggers to spread defamatory statements about Megan, with one such lawsuit against Elizabeth Milagro Cooper for defamation in October.
The court documents explain, “Indeed, Mr. Peterson continues to harass, bully, and antagonize Ms. Pete from prison through his use of third-party online ‘bloggers’ spreading defamatory statements about her.”
A hearing regarding the restraining order is set for Jan. 9, 2025.
Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020. He was found guilty on all charges in 2022 and is eligible for parole in September 2029.
