It’s been a while since Helldivers 2 players have heard much from former Arrowhead CEO and still very imaginative Johan Pilestedt, as the developer has clearly been enjoying some well-deserved time off. Now, though, he’s back in a pretty grand way, answering Discord questions from everyone and their moms.

Naturally, the studio has had to deal with criticism from players following its latest batch of weapon balance changes – ones that Arrowhead announced as part of its much-talked-about 60-day roadmap, which it has already responded to – which has been the case in 99% of developer conversations about the game lately.

“It’s tough. It’s a tough situation. Criticism is valid, but it causes low morale, and low morale causes slow development. Talk about a negative spiral,” Pilestedt said in response to a player asking how the developers are currently feeling. “I think it’s important that we reiterate to the team that criticism comes because people care,” he added in a separate response. “The worst thing would be if we screwed up and no one cared.”
Experimental Test Servers and Future Plans
On the subject of the test servers that players have been asking for, the developer said in multiple comments, “We will have an experimental server at some point. It’s in the works. It will be a limited group of active users and some form of NDA – we don’t want spoilers for those who aren’t testing.”
He also revealed that Arrowhead “used to have a backpack that was a robotic arm that would stimulate anyone nearby” during development, adding, “I think we need more support for Stratagems in general for those who want to play to help the team.” In addition to that bombshell review cape, Pilestedt said the studio is waiting for more clarity on the game being blocked in some regions by the PSN login requirement before implementing it.
