The reboot of the Wayans Brothers’ Scary Movie has been officially announced with a release date, and it is planned to be in theaters by late spring of 2026.
Based on a report from Deadline, the movie is set to hit the big screen on June 12, 2026. Paramount and Miramax are collaborating with the Wayans brothers to breathe new life into the Scary Movie franchise. Marlon Wayans, one of the creators of Scary Movie, welcomed the news of the release date with a statement, expressing his excitement about the long-overdue moment and his eagerness to present the film series to a fresh audience.
The comeback of Scary Movie was initially revealed last year. At that time, the Wayans brothers, Shawn, Keenan Ivory, and Marlon, rejoined forces with Miramax, the production company behind the first two Scary Movie films. The trio praised Miramax’s CEO Jonathan Glickman and his team for their role in resurrecting Scary Movie and enabling them to recreate the series according to their vision.
In a shared statement, the brothers expressed their enthusiasm about being part of the new Scary Movie and working together again. They reminisced about the creation of the franchise more than two decades ago and the joy they felt seeing audiences laugh. They expressed hope to recreate the same atmosphere with the reboot and looked forward to collaborating with Jonathan Glickman and the new team at Miramax.
Glickman reciprocated the Wayans’ enthusiasm about moving forward with a new Scary Movie installment. He expressed delight at reuniting the Scary Movie franchise with its original creators, the Wayans brothers. He praised their unique comedic vision and expressed optimism about the timing of the reboot, confident that it would cater to audiences worldwide.

The original Scary Movie premiered in 2000, with the script co-written by Marlon and Shawn Wayans and directed by their elder brother, Keenan Ivory.
Inspired by popular teen horror thrillers like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scary Movie was a massive success. It earned $42.5 million during its opening weekend, setting a record at the time for the highest-grossing R-rated horror-comedy and the largest opening weekend for a film directed by a Black director.
The franchise’s second installment was released the following year and grossed $141.2 million worldwide. This marked the last movie in the series that involved the Wayans in any capacity, after which Marlon accused former Miramax head Harvey Weinstein of usurping the franchise from his family.
