Grammy Awards 2025: Taylor Swift’s Heartwarming Gesture Towards Cynthia Erivo
More like saving space, am I right?
Taylor Swift’s Kind Act at the Grammy Awards
Early on in the 2025 Grammy Awards telecast on Sunday, Taylor Swift appeared to be sitting this close to Wicked phenom Cynthia Erivo — and a video from The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner shared to social media seems to show why.
In the video, Erivo can be seen looking for her table as host Trevor Noah is giving his monologue. Swift starts waving in her direction and can be seen motioning towards her seat as she makes room for Erivo on her chair. The two then share a hug.
Taylor Swift and Cynthia Erivo’s Heartfelt Moment
A little bit later, the two could be seen in the background with Swift holding on to Erivo’s finger, laughing, in what appears to be a call back to Erivo and Ariana Grande’s viral “holding space” moment.
For the uninitiated, during the Wicked press tour, queer journalist and Out reporter Tracy Gilchrist announced in an interview with Erivo and Grande that “people have been taking the lyrics of ‘Defying Gravity’ and really holding space with that and feeling power in that,” to which Erivo responded, “Uh, I didn’t know that was happening.”
Memorable Moments at the Grammy Awards
“That’s really powerful,” she continued awkwardly as Grande silently nodded and gripped one of her costar’s fingers. The moment has become the viral clip heard ’round the world this awards season.
Also seated at the Tortured Poets Department singer’s Grammys table were her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff and his wife, Margaret Qualley. Based on seating charts shared to social media before the show, Erivo’s table was supposed to include Queen Latifah and John Legend.
Celebrating Musical Excellence
Erivo, who won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for her performance in The Color Purple in 2017, was on hand on Sunday to perform in the tribute special to the late Quincy Jones, who died in November at 91.
