Lil Wayne Announces “Tha Carter VI” Album
Lil Wayne has officially announced his upcoming album “Tha Carter VI,” arriving on June 6.
Rapper Teases New Album in Super Bowl Ad
The rapper made waves earlier today when he teased the new project at the end of a Super Bowl ad for Cetaphil. Though it was unclear if that meant the album would officially arrive this summer, his label Republic Records and Young Money later confirmed that Wayne is gearing up to drop the next installment of his iconic “Carter” series in a few months.
Wayne’s Disappointment in Super Bowl Performance
Wayne’s appearance in the Super Bowl ad gestured towards his disappointment in not performing during this year’s Halftime Show, which will instead feature Kendrick Lamar. Social media quickly pointed out that Wayne should have gotten booked for the slot in his native New Orleans, which he pokes fun at in the commercial that touts the tagline “we’re all a lil sensitive.”
Return of “Tha Carter” Series
It’s been seven years since Wayne last released “Tha Carter V,” the fifth installment in the series that began in 2004. “TC5” was a massive hit for Wayne, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawning the hits “Uproar” and “Don’t Cry.” Wayne gestured towards a sixth entry with the Sept. 2023 release of “Tha Fix Before Tha VI,” a mixtape that featured contributions from Jon Batiste and Fousheé.
Recent Musical Collaborations
Wayne’s last solo album, “Funeral,” dropped in Jan. 2020. He teamed up with 2 Chainz in Nov. 2023 for the collaborative album “Welcome 2 Collegrove,” and over the past few years popped up on various singles from Tyler, The Creator, Tyga and Nicki Minaj.
