Warner Bros.
Armie Hammer is set for a significant return to the big screen, joining forces with renowned director Uwe Boll in a new movie titled “The Dark Knight.” This movie is based on a vigilante character who takes justice into his own hands to fight crime. If this rings a bell, rest assured that the infamous actor and the director, notoriously known as the worst in the world, are not recreating Christopher Nolan’s esteemed Batman movie of the same title. That said, the duo’s decision has reportedly provoked Warner Bros. Discovery to issue a cease and desist letter to Boll. Given that the director is well-known for literally taking his critics to the boxing ring, it’s no surprise that he has no intention of backing down.
“Warner and DC already reached out and stated that I can’t use the title. I comprehend their point, but I reminded them of ‘Rampage’, the movie featuring The Rock. They used my title for that,” Boll disclosed on “The Uwe Boll Podcast Network” (as reported by World of Reel). “Considering they did that and sought my permission, they could express some gratitude and say, listen, it’s not a Batman movie, and you can use the name.”
Boll is drawing a reference to the outrageous Dwayne Johnson action movie “Rampage,” adapted from the video game franchise of the same title, which came 23 years before Boll’s 2009 vigilante movie. Despite this, Boll is steadfast in his refusal to change “The Dark Knight” title and wants WBD to understand his true sentiments regarding Batman.
Uwe Boll’s Dislike for Batman
Warner Bros.
Uwe Boll’s “The Dark Knight” is not a superhero movie, and he maintains that it won’t be mistaken for Christopher Nolan’s 2008 DC box office hit. As per the widely criticized director, his film will be a violent action-packed movie addressing the issue of migrants perpetrating sexual assaults and knife crimes in Europe. Armie Hammer’s character will presumably be the savior. This movie, akin to “Rampage” and “Assault on Wall Street,” will showcase Boll at his most dangerously twisted and politically charged. It’s understandable why Warner Bros. Discovery wants no affiliation with it.
Furthermore, Boll ignited more disputes with WBD by apparently aligning himself with Martin Scorsese’s stance in the superhero movie debate, expressing his candid views about DC movies. In his words:
“Most of the DC and Marvel films are terrible. They’re excessively long, filled with endless CGI, everything is fabricated, and the stories are awful. Especially Batman, how many renditions of Batman do we need to see? They’re awful.”
Finally, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief knowing Boll’s stance on Batman and superhero movies, even though it seems like he aims to leverage the popularity of Nolan’s successful movie. It’s yet to be seen if there will be any legal tensions between the director and Warner Bros. Discovery. There’s also a chance that Boll might challenge David Zaslav to a boxing match for the rights to the “Dark Knight” name.
