According to the Mayo Clinic, multiple myeloma is a rare type of cancer that develops in plasma cells, a type of white blood cell. The life expectancy of individuals with this condition varies based on factors such as kidney function, cancer progression, and overall health.

In the documentary, Patti explained how her diagnosis led to her temporary hiatus from performing with the E Street Band, stating, “Touring has become a challenge for me due to my compromised immune system. I have to be cautious about my activities and travel choices.”

She mentioned, “Occasionally, I attend a show or two and perform a few songs on stage, which is a special experience. This is my new normal, and I am content with it.”

The E Street Band embarked on a tour in February 2023, scheduled to conclude in July 2025.

Prior to this, Scialfa mentioned that she took a break to work on a solo album and assist in caring for her and Springsteen’s first grandchild, Lily, born to their son Sam in July 2022.
