Exploring the Intriguing World of Severance Season 2
Just when Mark Scout and his MDR pals thought they were out(ies), Lumon Industries has pulled them back in(nie). That’s right, people — after almost three years, a couple of SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike-related production delays, and a recent slew of tantalising teaser trailers, Severance Season 2 is almost here. And as the Adam Scott starring Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller gears up to funk with our work-life balance once again, the streamer has just dropped a noodle-twisting, intrigue filled new trailer for the series ahead. If you thought Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, then it looks like we’ll be right back on that cliff, still hanging, when S2 begins. Check out the trailer below:
Revisiting Season 1 Cliffhangers and Setting the Stage for Season 2
As you will no doubt recall (though *SPOILER WARNING* just in case), the first season of Severance climaxed with Mark (Scott) and his Macro-Data Refinement division colleagues — Dylan (Zach Cherry), Helly (Britt Lower), and Irving (John Turturro) — taking their ‘innies’ and breaking, well, outie, in a maverick effort to reconcile their severed selves. As we see here though, not only do Mark and the gang find themselves back at Lumon as Season 2 begins, unsure of just what exactly it was they witnessed when their Innies went Outie, but they’ve also apparently become the faces of ‘severance reform’ — or at least that’s what Tramell Tillman’s severed floor supervisor Mr. Milchick would have them believe anyway.
Unraveling Mysteries and Facing New Challenges in Season 2
With Mark still searching for deeper-lying truths about his shadowy employers however, especially given the conflicting information he’s been getting regarding his wife Miss Casey/Gemma (Dichen Lachmann), and the series’ logline ominously stating that “Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe,” you can bet some shady shit’s goin’ on at Lumon this season. And we already know that as well as the core cast returning, including Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette, the plot is set to thicken further with the arrival of new series regulars Sarah Bock, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Stefano Carannante, and Gwendoline Christie.
Delving Deeper into the Intrigue of Severance Season 2
Heading into the new season, the more teasers we’re getting, the more questions we find ourselves asking. Like does anybody truly believe severance has really been reformed? And why do we see the Innies outside again? What is the actual deal with the goats? How come there’s a kid playing deputy manager on the severed floor? And will we ever really discover the trick to establishing a healthy work-life balance as the flames of late-stage capitalism engulf us all? Creator Dan Erickson and director Ben Stiller will be on hand to provide at least some answers when Severance Season 2 premieres on Apple TV+ on 17 January, 2025.
