Comedic personality, Amy Poehler, is poised for hilarity. She is scheduled to receive Variety’s Legends and Groundbreakers Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Oct. 20. In her company’s offices, Paper Kite, runs a joke regarding the current state of our world. She says, “People are always saying we’re living in unprecedented times. We want to change that. We’re looking forward to 2025, which we’re calling ‘The Year of Precedented Times’. And for us, 2025 is also The Year of Comedy.”
Poehler explains, “These challenging times have inspired some incredible art, which is great. But, we’re all in need of a good laugh again.” When it comes to what makes her laugh, she pauses. She explains, “I’m fortunate to be friends with some incredibly funny people. Beyond a doubt, the first thing that brings a smile to my face is my friends,” referring to her comedian friends like Natasha Lyonne, Maya Rudolph, and Tina Fey.
