Joel Ruiz, a renowned filmmaker from the Philippines, and his producer Maria Madonna Tarrayo, are showcasing their anthology series “Love at 310” at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF). The series provides a deep dive into relationship dynamics, with all tales based in a love motel in Manila.

Ruiz, whose past work “How She Left Me” gained immense popularity on Netflix, states that the narratives in ‘Love at 310’ are derived from real-life experiences. He adds, “What transpires between couples when they are stripped of all defenses, when they stand completely exposed, with no place to hide?”

The show aims to pioneer the discussion of sexuality in Asian media. Ruiz argues that Asian culture is typically reserved when it comes to sexuality, however, it forms a crucial aspect of relationships. He believes it’s high time to have open conversations about it.

Tarrayo, who also serves as the president and CEO of UXS, a production company based in the Philippines, believes that ‘Love at 310’ fills a void in the current media landscape. She notes, “I haven’t seen a series that looks at the rawness and honesty of love, sex and relationships,” she says. As a producer, her primary interest lies in stories that are genuine, relatable, and universal. ‘Love at 310’ fits the bill as it explores characters that are a part of our everyday lives and truths that we share with them. She further adds that it is intriguing to think about the lives they lead behind closed doors and believes it’s time to shed our inhibitions about sex and its realities.
