Despite weeks of rumors and unconfirmed reports, Beyoncé was never scheduled to attend the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, let alone perform or introduce Kamala Harris.

A representative for Beyoncé clarified to the Hollywood Reporter that she was never slated to be present at the event, debunking the false reports of a performance.

Many were surprised by Beyoncé’s absence, considering her previous support for the Harris campaign. The singer had allowed the use of her song “Freedom” in a campaign video and permitted its continued use throughout the campaign.

Beyoncé had endorsed the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris ticket in 2020 and had also shown support for Hillary Clinton in previous elections. She had even performed at Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2013.

Kamala Harris, the keynote speaker for the evening, was set to close out the weeklong convention by accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination as the presidential candidate for the 2024 election, running against former President Donald J. Trump.

NBC News reported that Harris’ speech would highlight President Joe Biden, outline her policy positions, and delve into her personal and professional background as she vies for the presidency.

The Chicago convention had already featured speeches from prominent figures like Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and the vice presidential nominee, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

With broadcasts of the DNC reaching over 20 million views, the final night of the convention could be watched on various networks including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX Business, MSNBC, and more.
