Blossoms Shanghai and Cigarette Girl Bag Top Honors at Busan Streaming Awards

At the sixth annual Asia Contents Awards and Global OTT (streaming) Awards of the prestigious Busan International Film Festival, Wong Kar-wai made an impressive debut with his series “Blossoms Shanghai”. The Chinese series from Tencent Video triumphed, bagging two top awards, namely ‘best creative’ and ‘best male lead actor’ for Hu Ge.

The best director award was given to Kamila Andini and Ifa Isfansyah for directing the Indonesian Netflix sensation “Cigarette Girl.” Ariel Lin’s gripping performance in PTS Taiwan’s series, “Imperfect Us,” won her the best female lead actor award.

“Boyhood”, a Korean show from Coupang Play made a mark in the OTT space by winning the award for the best OTT original. Meanwhile, Salem Entertainment’s “1286”, hailing from Kazakhstan, bagged the best Asian contents award.

In terms of supporting roles, Ahn Jaehong and Yeom Hye-ran earned recognition for their exceptional contributions to Netflix’s Korean show “Mask Girl.” They won the male and female supporting actor awards respectively. In the newcomer category, Chae Jong-heop’s performance in TBS Television’s Japanese show, “Eye Love You” and Kim Yo-han’s acts in Netflix’s Korean series, “A Killer Paradox” were both recognized, leading to a shared best male newcomer acting award. Nimura Sawa earned herself the best female acting newcomer award for her role in Telepack’s Japanese show “Shut Up.”

In the writer’s category, Ju Hwa-mi’s vivid and engaging work for SLL’s Korean show “The Atypical Family” caught the jury’s favor, ultimately winning the best writer award.

The rising star of the year award had three deserving recipients: Anson Kong for MakerVille’s Hong Kong and China show “Warriors Within 2”, Jo Yoonsu for the Disney+ Korean series “The Tyrant”, and Miyoshi Ayaka for Telecom Staff Japan’s “Globe-Trotter Travel Guidebook.” On the other hand, CJ ENM Studios and Bon Factory’s Korean series “Lovely Runner” featuring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hyeoon was chosen as the people’s favorite, winning the crowd’s choice award.

The reality and variety category were dominated by Workpoint Group’s “2 Faces” from Thailand and Eggiscoming’s “Jinny’s Kitchen 2” from Korea, who both shared the award. Additionally, Netflix’s “Parasyte: The Grey” stood out for its visual effects, while Tanya Chua’s original song for “Imperfect Us,” titled “Learn to Live Again”, was chosen as the best original song.

Tving’s Korean documentary series “Shaman: Whispers from the Dead” showcased exceptional creativity and won the creative beyond border award, and Korean streamer Kocowa was recognized with the new technology prize.
