Céline Dion recently commemorated the ninth anniversary of her husband René Angélil’s passing. Reflecting on the late music producer and manager, Dion shared a heartfelt message alongside a photo of herself with their three sons on Instagram. Angélil, who succumbed to throat cancer at the age of 73 in 2016, holds a special place in Dion’s heart.

Remembering René Angélil

“René, we can’t believe you’ve been gone nine years already,” Dion expressed. “Not a day passes without feeling your presence, RC, Eddy, Nelson, and I. You were my greatest champion, my partner, and the one who always believed in me. I honor you and you are forever missed, mon amour…. We love you.”

A Love Story

Dion’s relationship with Angélil began when she auditioned for him at the tender age of 12. Recalling the emotional moment, Dion shared, “While I was singing, he started to cry. I knew then I had done a good job.” Their romance blossomed, leading to their engagement in 1991 and a fairy-tale wedding at Montréal’s Notre-Dame Basilica in 1994. Tragically, Angélil passed away on Jan. 14, 2016, during Dion’s residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Courage in the Face of Adversity

Angélil battled cancer three times since his initial diagnosis in 1998 but experienced a period of remission that lasted a decade. In 2008, he appeared in Simple Plan’s “Save You” video, a tribute to cancer survivors. Dion, aware of the challenges ahead, shared her preparedness to cope with his eventual passing.

Resilience and Strength

In an interview with USA Today, Dion reflected on her journey of grief and acceptance, stating, “All my grieving, it was during this last year. I think I’ve got this. For now. When it hits me, it’s going to hit me, but my biggest job is to tell my husband ‘We’re fine. I’ll take care of our kids. You’ll watch us from another spot.’
