The U.K. broadcasting giant, Channel 4, is set to provide an unprecedented coverage of the forthcoming U.S. presidential election. This initiative is made possible due to a collaboration with CNN and an impressive roster of guests. The lineup includes Brian Cox, the star of Succession, Caitlyn Jenner, Stormy Daniels, Boris Johnson, among others. This marks the first time in 32 years that Channel 4 is offering overnight coverage of a U.S. election.
Channel 4, in an announcement made on Tuesday in London, expressed excitement over the “exceptional international array of presenters, guests, and expert analysis for America Decides: U.S. Election Results (working title)”, produced by ITN Productions. The eight-hour live coverage, starting at 10:15 p.m. U.K. time on Tuesday, Nov. 5, will be broadcasted from Washington DC. The hosts for the event are Channel 4 News anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Emily Maitlis, who co-presents Global’s daily podcast The News Agents. Maitlis has had a notable career at the BBC, where she interviewed Prince Andrew, a conversation that made global headlines.
The hosting duo is set to reprise their roles from Channel 4’s critically acclaimed coverage of the 2024 U.K. general election, also produced by ITN Productions. The previous coverage saw the broadcaster’s audience size double compared to that of 2019. Joining them will be Jeremy Vine, a host for BBC and Channel 5, who will be making his Channel 4 election debut from a “data hub”. This hub will provide infographics and stories behind statistics as the results from the crucial battleground states are announced. Channel 4 News presenter Matt Frei will also be playing a pivotal role in the overnight program, leading the coverage on Channel 4 News throughout the election period. He will be accompanied by a team of correspondents reporting from the swing states, which will play a key role in determining the next president. Frei, a former Washington DC correspondent, has previously hosted Channel 4 documentaries like Trump vs Harris: The Battle for America and Trump: Should We Be Scared?
Channel 4’s first-ever collaboration with CNN will facilitate the sharing of guests, reporters, graphics, and data throughout the night. This partnership will leverage CNN’s expert analysis and innovative use of data, including the ability to simulcast updates from CNN’s award-winning anchor and chief national correspondent John King, known for his ‘Magic Wall’.

Channel 4, on Tuesday, also highlighted the “exclusive guests who will provide captivating conversation from across the American political spectrum” on election night. The guest list includes Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress at the center of Donald Trump’s ‘hush-money’ trial following an alleged affair, and Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer who allegedly paid Daniels to keep quiet about the affair. They will be joined in the Washington DC studio by former U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Other guests include media personality and Republican supporter Caitlyn Jenner, renowned pollster Frank Lutz, James Carville, Bill Clinton’s lead strategist known for coining the term ‘it’s the economy, stupid!,’ and actor Brian Cox, star of Succession.
The coverage will also be accessible on Channel 4’s streaming platforms, including its YouTube and TikTok pages.
Louisa Compton, Channel 4’s head of news and current affairs and specialist factual and sport, expressed her delight in being able to offer Channel 4 viewers what she believes will be the best and most comprehensive coverage of the American election results. She stated, “America Decides will capture all the drama of the night, whilst also providing the best analysis and commentary with our impressive talent lineup, unique range of guests, and partnership with CNN.”
