The Recording Academy Events Update During Grammy Week
Clive Davis Gala and Special Merit Awards
The Recording Academy has announced that its Clive Davis Gala and Special Merit Awards will proceed as scheduled during Grammy week. However, the Black Music Collective event, which was set to honor Alicia Keys, has been canceled.
Fundraising Element Added to Events
Each of the Academy’s events, including MusiCares’ Person of the Year and the Grammys telecast, will now incorporate a fundraising element. Following the launch of the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort to Support Music Professionals, the Academy and MusiCares have already raised and pledged over $2 million in emergency aid.
Commitment to Supporting Music Community
“We understand the devastating impact of the recent events on this city and its people,” stated Harvey Mason Jr., the CEO of the Academy and MusiCares. “With the support of state and local leaders, public safety agencies, and the artist community, we have decided to proceed with the GRAMMY telecast and select events. GRAMMY Week 2025 will not only celebrate music but also use its power to rebuild, uplift, and support those in need.”
Additional Funds and Honors
The live awards show, scheduled for Feb. 2 on CBS, will raise funds for wildfire relief efforts and honor first responders. The Clive Davis Gala, taking place on Feb. 1, will coincide with the Special Merit Awards honoring Prince, Frankie Beverly, The Clash, Dr. Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, Roxanne Shante, and Frankie Valli. MusiCares will pay tribute to the Grateful Dead on Jan. 31.
Cancellations by Major Record Labels
Sony, Warner, and Universal, along with Billboard, BMG, Milk & Honey/Reservoir Music, and The Resonator Awards, have all canceled their Grammy-related events.
