Dame Dash is offering a Roc-A-Fella chain to the highest bidder who is willing to pay over $10 million for his stake in Roc-A-Fella records.

Dame Dash Promises Roc-A-Fella Chain to Highest Bidder

On Monday (Aug. 19), Dame Dash took to Instagram to discuss his 33.3 percent stake in Roc-A-Fella Records, which will be auctioned off by U.S. Marshalls on Aug. 29 in New York City. This stake includes Jay-Z’s iconic debut album, Reasonable Doubt, which Dame is still selling. Jay-Z recently filed for ownership of the album and will gain full rights to it in 2031. To entice potential buyers, Dame announced that he would gift a Roc-A-Fella chain to the person who bids over $10 million.

“So if you want to purchase one-third of Roc-A-Fella Inc., you will need to bring a substantial amount of money, and anything over $10 million will come with an added bonus,” Dame explained in a video. “You will receive an original Roc-A-Fella chain from my personal collection. I was the only one who distributed Roc-A-Fella chains when the label was active. If I don’t personally give you the chain, it’s not an authentic Roc-A-Fella chain. This is a genuine piece from my collection, reminiscent of when I gave chains to Kanye, Cam’ron, and others.”

He added, “So, if you are serious about making a significant investment and completing the transaction, be prepared to spend real money. If you meet the right price, you will receive a chain or have the opportunity to negotiate with the original owner.”

Reasonable Doubt Ownership to Transfer to Jay-Z

Dame’s decision to sell his stake comes after Jay-Z’s legal team informed the courts that ownership of Reasonable Doubt will transfer to Jay-Z in 2031. The complete ownership of the album will be under “one Shawn Carter/Jay-Z.”

A few days later, Dame reiterated that the album was still available for purchase to avoid any confusion among potential buyers.

“Regardless of what others may say, this item is still up for sale,” Dame stated on Instagram. “You are not just buying a copyright; you are acquiring a share of ROC A FELLA INC. Serious inquiries only, please!”

The ownership rights cover not only Jay-Z’s debut album and its title but also each track on the 14-song release. This means that the buyer of Dame’s share will have complete control over the album for seven years before transferring it to Jay-Z. Despite the upcoming auction, the copyrights for the project were already set to revert to Jay-Z 35 years after the album’s release. Jay-Z’s legal team simply wanted to initiate the process.

The upcoming auction is a result of a legal dispute with director Josh Webber, who sued Dame for copyright infringement in 2019. Webber won over $800,000 in a civil judgment against Dame, claiming that Dame falsely promoted the 2019 film Dear Frank as his own despite being removed from the production.
