Darius Rucker’s Eventful Riverfront Revival Performance
Darius Rucker Takes a Tumble on Stage
Let him cry.
Darius Rucker took a tumble while on stage at the annual Riverfront Revival in Charleston, S.C., on Saturday. “I’m old as f—,” he joked in fan-captured footage after quickly jumping back up.
Rucker was joined by his band Hootie and the Blowfish, but was singing the song “Alright,” which he released in 2008 under his own name. “I got a stereo” he yelled as he stumbled forward over an amp, eventually barking out the rest of the lyric while laughing, “and the best of Patsy Cline.” He later joked with the audience, “We’ve been doing this all summer. I hadn’t fell once. But I busted my a– in my hometown.”
Riverfront Revival Music Festival
Rucker and his band began organizing the Riverfront Revival music festival in 2022 in Rucker’s hometown of Charleston. Hootie and the Blowfish have headlined each year since the inaugural edition, and were joined this year by country and rock & roll acts like Collective Soul, The Revivalists, Jamey Johnson, and Hailey Whitters.
Proceeds from the festival benefit the Medical University of South Carolina’s Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.
Darius Rucker’s 2024 Journey
Rucker has had an eventful 2024 so far. The musician kicked off the year on a low note, pleading no contest and accepting 11 months and 29 days of probation for a 2023 arrest on minor drug charges in Tennessee. Rucker had been pulled over for expired tags and booked after a THC pen and 14 unmarked purple pills were found in his vehicle. He was released on a $10,500 bond, and when charges were eventually brought months later, he stated that he was “shocked.”
“My friends who were in the police department were like, ‘Have you pissed somebody off up here? Because this is crazy that they’re doing this a year later. I think somebody wanted to make an example out of me, and they did,” he said in May.
Rucker’s Memoir and Thoughts on Beyoncé’s Country Music
Rucker released a memoir in May called Life’s Too Short. While promoting the memoir, he commented on the release of Beyoncé’s 27-track foray into country, Cowboy Carter. “I can’t express enough how big what she did was because she brought so many eyes to the genre,” he said on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace. “She brought, I think, even more eyes to the genre and more people looking at it and more Black people going, ‘Alright man, I like country music.'”
