Deorro, the talented DJ and producer known for the chart-topping dance hit “Five More Hours,” has secured his first Latin Grammy Award nomination.
This recognition comes in the category of Best Latin Electronic Music Performance for his collaboration “BAMBOLE,” released on Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Records last summer in partnership with crossover dance artist Vikina. The track seamlessly combines Vikina’s captivating vocals with Deorro’s distinctive synths and infectious rhythms.
This year marks the introduction of a new category dedicated to Latin electronic music, a move praised by Deorro who sees it as a significant step in acknowledging the evolution of the genre.
In an interview with GRAMMY.com, Deorro expressed his delight about the new category, stating, “That’s something that’s very big for us. How beautiful that this is happening, because it shows that what we’re doing is working, we’re breaking down doors, and we’re creating more opportunities for artists like us in the future.”
Joining Deorro in this category are other notable artists like Brazilian sensation Alok, nominated for tracks “Pedju Kunumigwe” and “Drum Machine”; Tiësto from the Netherlands, recognized for his remix of Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”; and Ale Acosta and Valeria Castro for their joint effort “La Ceniza.”
For Deorro, this nomination represents a pivotal moment in his career as he had previously announced a shift towards focusing on Latin dance music in 2020. His latest album, ORRO, released in 2022, features collaborations with artists such as Elvis Crespo, Brray, and Los Tucanes De Tijuana. Additionally, he had the opportunity to tour with Bad Bunny on the “World’s Hottest Tour.”
Earlier this year, Deorro graced the stage at the 2024 Latin American Music Awards, where he performed a remix of “Te Va a Doler” alongside Mexican singer-songwriter ThalÃa, known as the “Queen of Latin Pop.” He also recently signed with Double P Records, owned by hip-hop and reggaeton star Peso Pluma, before returning to Mr. 305 to release a rendition of “Como La Flor” by the late Selena Quintanilla with Natti Natasha and Play-N-Skillz.
Celebrating his Latin Grammy nomination on social media, Deorro referred to it as a “dream come true.”
The 25th annual Latin Grammy Awards, hosted at Miami’s Kaseya Center, will take place on Thursday, November 14th. For a full list of nominees, visit the Latin Recording Academy.
