Digital Underground Mixtape Vol. 2

Published:

Scuba has released the second instalment of his ‘Digital Underground’ mixtape series through his Hotflush Recordings label. This release comes after a series of live shows, his first in over a decade, where tracks like ‘Truth’, ‘Riding Hi’, ‘Sorry’, and ‘I wna doit inth bckst’ were standout features. One track, ‘U Never See’, stands out on the record for its high-energy blend of jazz elements, including percussive breaks, staccato piano chords, and acid-influenced vocal duets.

Exploring New Sounds

The ‘D:U’ project is inspired by Scuba’s desire to rediscover the joy of studio work after working on a film score during the pandemic. He wanted to return to the simplicity and pleasure of music production without any restrictions. In his own words, ‘D:U:2’ allows him to delve into areas that were untouched in the first mixtape, highlighting sounds from old skool hardcore, breakbeat, jungle, and techno.

A Look into the Classic Era

Scuba explains, “This is the second part of a series started last year which explores the classic era of hardcore, which is one of my absolute favourite periods of dance music history.” He adds, “It’s been a lot of fun to put together, and the second mixtape delves into some themes that we didn’t explore deeply in the first one, making it a great continuation of the series.”
