Disney Night on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ sets Voting Record: Popular Contestant Eliminated

Published:

The magic of Disney comes alive every evening at the “Dancing With the Stars” studio. The Oct. 22 episode saw eight remaining couples putting their best foot forward. Their dream? To secure the first perfect score of the season. Last week, a tie at the top of the leaderboards meant there was all to dance for.

Dedication Week showed viewers two stellar performances. Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson’s elegant Viennese waltz, along with a contemporary routine by Danny Amendola and Witney Carson all racked up a score of 27/30. Both pairs aimed to top that during Disney week.

There came a bit of a stumble though. The Samba routine by Joey and Jenna, set to “Trashin’ the Camp” from “Tarzan,” fell short of expectations at 25/30. Danny and Witney’s “Bye Bye Bye” Jazz routine from “Deadpool & Wolverine” didn’t fare any better – three 9s were all it could muster.

Meanwhile, Chandler Kinney came into her own after an intense discussion with judge Carrie Ann Inaba. Heeding the advice to “dig deeper,” Chandler and her partner Brandon Armstrong performed a Paso Doble to “We Own the Night.” This performance, lifted out of Chandler’s own film “ZOMBIES 2”, earned applause and three 9s.

Post individual performances, the stars were split into teams. Team Roar consisted of Dwight and Daniella, Danny and Witney, Stephen and Rylee, and Phaedra and Val. They didn’t quite synchronize, but still managed a score of 24/30.

Team Goofs, featuring Ilona and Alan, Joey and Jenna, Chandler and Brandon, and Jenn and Sasha caught the judges’ eye though. Bruno Tonioli admired their form so much, that he confessed it was hard to tell the pros from celebs. Their show-stopping performance bagged a score of 27/30.

After adding the group scores, Chandler and Brandon stood at the top. Ilona and Alan tied with Joey and Jenna, Danny and Witney were level with Jenn and Sasha. The three-way tie at the bottom was between Dwight and Daniela, Phaedra and Val, and Stephen and Rylee.

Once the audience’s votes were added to the scores, cohost Alfonso Ribeiro made a record-breaking announcement – a new single-night voting record was set. Still, someone had to take the fall – Phaedra and Val were sent packing.
