Leading Contenders for the 2025 SCL Awards
Clément Ducol and Camille, the composers behind “Emilia Pérez,” are leading contenders for the Society of Composers & Lyricists’ 2025 SCL Awards. They have received three nominations for their score and two original songs from the musical drama. Also in the spotlight is Atticus Ross, who has garnered three nominations for his work on “Shōgun” and a song for “Challengers.”
Announcement of Nominations
The SCL announced nominations in eight film, television, and interactive media categories on Wednesday morning. The awards ceremony is set to take place in Los Angeles on Feb. 12. Scroll down to see the full list of nominees.
Spirit of Collaboration Award
At the event, composer Harry Gregson-Williams and director Ridley Scott will receive the annual Spirit of Collaboration Award. This honor recognizes their ongoing partnership, culminating in “Gladiator II,” their seventh film together. Last year, the award went to Martin Scorsese and the late Robbie Robertson.
Nominees Unveiled
The unveiling of nominees for the SCL’s film scoring and song categories follows the Academy’s release of a shortlist in similar categories. There is significant overlap with the Oscars’ initial picks, but also recognition for contenders overlooked by the Academy.
Film Score Contenders
The SCL has divided its film score contenders into two categories: studio and independent films. Among the contenders are scores from films like “Emilia Pérez,” “Gladiator II,” “Wicked,” “The Wild Robot,” and “Conclave.” Hans Zimmer’s work on “Dune: Part Two” is also recognized, despite being disqualified from Oscar contention. Independent films like “Heretic,” “Meet Me Next Christmas,” and “The Book of Jobs” have also received nominations.
Song Categories
In the songs category, the SCL has recognized original compositions for dramatic films and musicals/comedies. “Emilia Pérez” has landed nominations for two songs, “El Mal” and “Mi Camino.” Other songs on the list include “The Journey,” “Never Too Late,” “Winter Coat,” “Beyond,” and “Out of Oklahoma.”
Television Field
Ross has received two nominations in the television field for “Shogun.” Other TV score nominees include Bear McCreary, Blake Neely, David Fleming, Finneas O’Connell, and Jeff Toyne.
Emerging Talent
The SCL also recognizes emerging talent, with nods going to Andrea Datzman, Emily Rice, Katya Richardson, Nikhil Koparkar, Robin Carolan, and Wei-San Hsu.
