Horror maestro James Wan has unveiled a sneak peek behind the scenes of the much-anticipated finale to the Conjuring series.
Old Friends and Final Farewells
“Always a joy to reunite with old friends,” Wan captioned an Instagram post featuring director’s chairs labeled Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have portrayed the real-life paranormal investigators since 2013, and their last battle with demons will unfold in The Conjuring: Last Rites next year. Wan expressed his emotions, stating, “Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.”
The Beginning of the End
The fourth and final chapter of the Conjuring series was announced in 2022, following the release of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and during filming of The Nun II in France.
A Last Hurrah
While Wilson and Farmiga’s characters will bid farewell, the Conjuring universe is set to expand further. The conclusion in The Conjuring: Last Rites will mark the end of the main storyline but not of its related franchises, The Nun and Annabelle.

A Legacy of Hauntings
Each film in Wilson and Farmiga’s Conjuring series reflects a different haunting investigated by the real Warren couple. From the Perron family case to the Enfield poltergeist and the recent demonic possession trial, their adventures have captivated audiences.
The final case for Warrens’ swan song remains a mystery, with the possibility of the infamous Amityville Horror tale being revisited.
Expanding Horizons
Beyond Wilson and Farmiga’s films, the Conjuring universe includes stories of Valak, Annabelle, and La Llorona. Future projects under Wan’s direction promise even more chilling tales.
While new entries in the Nun and Annabelle series are pending, Wan is exploring various other projects across different platforms, keeping the horror genre alive and thriving.
