As the saying goes, if you don’t succeed at first, try again. This seems to be the mantra of the “Masters of the Universe” franchise. Longtime fans have been waiting for decades to see another film adaptation of the beloved cartoon and toy series. The 1987 movie remains a topic of conversation, and it appears their patience is about to be rewarded.
Although there were some bumps on the road, including Netflix’s cancellation and subsequent revival on Amazon, the “Masters of the Universe” movie is progressing steadily. With Travis Knight at the helm, who has experience bringing a toy line to life with the “Transformers” prequel “Bumblebee,” and Nicholas Galitzine cast as the new He-Man, anticipation is high. Galitzine, known for roles in “Bottoms,” “Red, White & Royal Blue,” and “The Idea of You,” steps into Dolph Lundgren’s shoes from the 1987 film. As set photos begin to surface on social media, fan expectations may skyrocket. Here’s a preview of Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man.

So, what do “Masters of the Universe” fans think? Galitzine’s updated look as Prince Adam, complete with his signature pink attire, is one of the first things that stands out. In one scene, he is seen getting arrested by modern-day earth police officers, who seem bewildered by his large Power Sword. This suggests the new movie might start on Earth and then shift to the magical planet of Eternia, offering a fish-out-of-water narrative later in the plot.
Fans may have their reservations about the adaptation’s fidelity to the original, but these photos confirm that the film is indeed happening after numerous delays and reboots. The impressive cast, featuring Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, and Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, strengthens the film’s appeal.
The “Masters of the Universe” is expected to premiere on June 5, 2026.
