Mumford & Sons Return with “Rushmere”

The track exudes vintage stomp-and-holler festival folk vibes, with Marcus Mumford’s distinctive vocals soaring over energetic drums, acoustic guitar, and banjo. The chorus rings out with Mumford’s emotive lyrics, “Light me up I’m wasted in the dark, Rushmere restless hearts in the end. Get my head out of the ground, Time don’t let us down again.”

The Story Behind “Rushmere”

As revealed in a press release, “Rushmere” is named after a pond in Wimbledon Common in southwest London, where Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane initially bonded and laid the groundwork for forming their band. The album, years in the making, represents a period described by the band as “the most prolific two years we’ve ever had,” as shared on Instagram.

The band expresses their excitement, stating, “We have a lot of songs to share with you… and it all begins where we started, really, with ‘Rushmere.’ We’re restless to get going, relieved and excited to share this first one with you.”

Recording and Departure

Recorded with producer Dave Cobb at various locations including RCA Studio A in Nashville, Savannah, Georgia, and Mumford’s studio in Devon, England, “Rushmere” marks the group’s first album as a trio following Winston Marshall’s departure due to political differences.

Previous Releases and Collaborations

Following their 2018 album “Delta,” Mumford & Sons have released select singles, including “Blind Leading the Blind” and an early demo of “Forever.” Marcus Mumford also ventured into a solo career with his debut album “Self-Titled” in 2022.

In recent years, the band collaborated with Noah Kahan on the unreleased track “Maybe” and teamed up with Pharrell for “Good People,” featuring Native Vocalists, a vocal choir from Native American Tribes in the Northern Great Plains.
