Harrison Ford is going red with rage.
The new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World fully unveils the Raiders of the Lost Ark legend as the Red Hulk going toe-to-toe with Anthony Mackie’s Captain America.
We got a brief glimpse of the radioactive superhuman in the movie’s first teaser, but the trailer released Saturday at D23 Brazil confirms that Ford’s President Thaddeus Ross (previously played by the late William Hurt) does indeed transform into Bruce Banner’s crimson counterpart.
The trailer opens with Sam Wilson (Mackie) visiting Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) in prison.
“You asked for me? Here I am,” Sam says in a possible meta-wink to fans’ calls for his character to succeed Steve Rogers as Cap. “Is there anything you remember?”
Cue flashes of Isaiah attempting to assassinate President Ross — and based on the preceding dialogue, it seems the former super-soldier has no recollection of the actions that landed him behind bars.
We then hear from Ruth Bat-Seraph (Shira Haas), a former Black Widow who breaks down the attack to the prez. “There were five shooters. This was a coordinated terrorist attack, sir,” she reports.
Ross reflects on the stakes of the movie: “I was a wartime general. Now I’m a wartime president.”
The trailer also shows tons of imagery from maritime battle sequences, with Sam and the new Falcon, Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), zipping between missiles as battleships fire at each other. “We’re on the brink of war,” Sam says.
The background of some of these shots appears to show enormous fingers made of rock or metal, suggesting that the scenes take place in the remains of the celestial that emerged in the ocean at the end of 2021’s Eternals.
Later, the Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) provides menacing voiceover as Sam engages in battle: “Captain America, you ever ask yourself who’s playing who? You like to play dress-up and execute the state’s orders. You don’t even know what this is.”
We also hear from Sidewinder (Giancarlo Esposito) for the first time. “Captain America, caught without his wings,” the mysterious villain says, wielding a pistol.
The trailer culminates with its tensest moment: President Ross collapsing to the ground at what looks like a White House press conference, holding out his hand as he begins to transform. He then emerges from flames as the Red Hulk.
“You want me? Come and get me!” Sam taunts as he faces off against the newly morphed president before a backdrop of D.C.’s famous blossoming cherry trees.
