Fully Electric Chrysler Pacifica Coming Soon

Published:

Chrysler is working on a fully electric version of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan, according to Green Car Reports. The EV version reportedly would “likely” come a year after the company debuts a Pacifica design refresh that features elements of the Halcyon concept that Stellantis showed off earlier this year.

At the moment, the Pacifica lineup includes a standard gas-powered minivan and a plug-in hybrid with an estimated 32-mile electric-only driving range before it switches over to gas. Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell, who confirmed the plans to Green Car Reports during the LA Auto Show on Thursday, wouldn’t say whether the company will keep the plug-in hybrid alongside the all-electric model.

Chrysler will reportedly need to rejigger the Pacifica’s “Stow ‘N Go” seating system, which lets owners fold seats down to make a flat loading floor, to accommodate Stellantis’ BEV powertrain. Feuell told the outlet that one solution it’s considering would involve storing the second-row seats underneath the front seats. Another idea reportedly involves putting second-row outboard seats on rails that let them slide sideways.

Chrysler’s Move Towards Electric Vehicles

Chrysler is making significant strides in the electric vehicle market with the development of an all-electric version of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan. Green Car Reports has revealed that this EV model is expected to debut shortly after the introduction of a refreshed Pacifica design inspired by the Halcyon concept showcased by Stellantis.

Current Pacifica Lineup

The Chrysler Pacifica lineup currently includes a traditional gas-powered minivan and a plug-in hybrid variant offering an estimated 32-mile electric-only driving range before switching to gas. During the LA Auto Show, Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell hinted at the company’s plans but did not confirm whether the plug-in hybrid will coexist with the upcoming all-electric model.

Adapting the Pacifica for Electric Power

To accommodate Stellantis’ BEV powertrain in the Pacifica, Chrysler will need to make adjustments to the minivan’s “Stow ‘N Go” seating system. Feuell mentioned potential solutions, including storing second-row seats beneath the front seats or implementing a sliding mechanism for the second-row outboard seats.

Conclusion

Chrysler’s venture into electric vehicles marks a significant shift towards sustainable transportation. With the upcoming all-electric Pacifica, the company is poised to cater to environmentally conscious consumers while maintaining the versatility and functionality of its popular minivan.
