Hilaria Baldwin is once again addressing speculation regarding the authenticity of her Spanish origins. For the premiere of the upcoming TLC reality show The Baldwins, the 41-year-old fitness instructor stood by her identity after multiple claims online accused her of exaggerating her Spanish accent.
“I love English, I also love Spanish, and when I mix the two it doesn’t make me inauthentic, and when I mix the two, that makes me normal. I’d be lying if I said [the controversy] didn’t make me sad and it didn’t hurt and it didn’t put me in dark places,” she said.
But it was my family, my friends, my community who speak multiple languages, who have belonged in multiple places and realize that we are a mix of all these different things and that’s going to have an impact on how we sound and an impact on how we articulate things and the words that we choose and our mannerisms. That’s normal. That’s called being human,” she added.
Hilaria has been married to 66-year-old actor Alec Baldwin since 2012. They share seven children together: Carmen, 11, Rafael, 9, Leonardo, 7, Romeo, 6, Eduardo, 4, Maria, 3, and Ilaria, 2.
When it comes to raising their children, Hilaria said that integrating her Spanish culture into her family is very important to her. “I’m raising my kids to be bilingual, I was raised bilingual, my family — all my nuclear family — now lives over in Spain. I want to teach my kids pride in speaking more than one language. I think just growing up and speaking two languages is extremely special,” she said.
The Baldwins will premiere on TLC on Sunday, (February 23) on TLC.
In December 2020, Hilaria, who was born in Boston, Massachusetts under the name Hilary, faced controversy surrounding her roots and seeming inconsistencies in her family’s origins regarding whether she is actually Spanish.
Hilaria then defended herself by responding via social media.
