“Inside Out 2” recorded a whopping 30.5 million views during its initial 5-day streaming period on Disney+, where it made its premiere on Sept. 25.
This achievement elevates the Pixar production as not just Disney+’s biggest film premiere of 2024, but its grandest premier for a theatrical film since 2021’s debut of “Encanto”. This has also scored “Inside Out 2” as the service’s top premiere in both the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) and Latin America. (The calculation of views is done by dividing total stream time by runtime.)
“Inside Out 2’s” streaming success was anticipated given its outstanding performance at the box office earlier that year. The film exceeded “Frozen 2” to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time, amassing $1.7 billion against a $200 million budget. “Inside Out 2” was the pioneer film of 2024 to surpass the $1 billion mark, and it continues to be the year’s highest-grossing even after “Deadpool and Wolverine” reached that milestone. (The Marvel film bagged $1.3 billion.) Moreover, it is one of the exclusive 12 films to reach the $1 billion mark at the international box office, holding the distinction of being the lone animation on that elite list.

The film also garnered rave reviews from critics. “Inside Out 2” rode high with a TK% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Variety’s critic Peter Debruge praised it as Pixar’s “most vibrant and relatable film yet,” going beyond the screen to resonate with audiences as a skilful and emblematic visual metaphor that enables them to grasp their own feelings and empathize with others’.
