Jamie Foxx is making a triumphant return following a health setback, with his latest film, Back In Action, setting records as one of the most successful debuts on Netflix in recent years.

As reported by Variety on Tuesday (Jan. 21), Back In Action, a comedy-action thriller featuring Foxx and Cameron Diaz, garnered an impressive 46.8 million views within three days of its release on the previous Friday (Jan. 17).

This accomplishment positions Back In Action as the highest-performing English-language film released on Netflix since The Adam Project, which debuted on the platform in March 2022.

In Back in Action, Foxx and Diaz portray retired CIA operatives who left their careers to start a family. However, when their cover is blown, they find themselves forced to revert to their old ways.

The film boasts a star-studded cast including Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Jamie Demetriou (Barbie), McKenna Roberts (Skyscraper), and Rylan Jackson (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves). This marks the third collaboration between Foxx and Diaz.

Foxx, an Academy Award winner, has expressed his excitement about this reunion, something he’d been anticipating for years.

“Many people may not be aware, but Cameron and I became real-life friends after working together on Any Given Sunday and Annie. I’ve been eager for her to join me on screen again,” shared Foxx, who also served as executive producer on Back In Action.

The actor humorously added, “Everyone knows there’s just something about her…,” a playful nod to Diaz’s iconic 1998 film, There’s Something About Mary.

Back In Action is the second Netflix release from Foxx since his hospitalization due to illness in April 2023. In December 2024, the Texas-born actor released the Netflix comedy special, What Had Happened Was, his first stand-up film in over two decades.
