“We want to extend a heartfelt apology for the events that unfolded last night,” they wrote in their Instagram story. “As a result we will be cancelling tomorrow night’s show in Bridgeport.” They also added refund information for the nixed show in Connecticut on Sunday.
On Friday during their reunion show while playing “Ocean Size,” Farrell appeared agitated as seen in video footage from the concert. He approached Navarro, pushing his shoulder and yelling at him. Navarro, visibly surprised, used his arm to push Farrell back, leading to a physical altercation between the bandmates.
A crew member intervened, telling Farrell to stop, while Navarro expressed his confusion with a profanity. Farrell attempted to lunge at Navarro again, prompting more crew members and bassist Eric Avery to restrain him and remove him from the stage. Navarro also left shortly after, ending the show abruptly after 11 songs. The reason for Farrell’s aggression remains unclear.
The following morning, Farrell’s wife Etty shared her perspective on the incident on Instagram. She mentioned the tension and animosity among the band members that had been building up, leading to the explosive altercation on stage.
Etty explained that Perry had been feeling frustrated with the loud stage volume, which drowned out his voice, causing him to suffer from tinnitus and a sore throat. When audience members in the front row complained about the band playing too loudly and not being able to hear Perry, he lost his composure.
Etty also mentioned that Avery had physically restrained Perry during the incident, highlighting the intensity of the situation.
“Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour – he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried,” she shared.
The tour marked the reunion of the band’s “Core Four” lineup after 14 years, including Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins. This reunion came after Navarro’s temporary departure from the band due to battling long Covid.
