The final episode of the “Star Trek: Picard” series, “The Last Generation” (April 20, 2023), culminated in a dramatic climax with the villain meeting his end and a majority of the heroes surviving. However, the uncompromising and determined Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick), perished on his ship, the Titan-A. This led to a sense of mixed feelings from his second-in-command, Commander Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). Captain Shaw’s prejudice towards Seven, stemming from her Borg implants, was evident as he viewed her as a threat and constantly referred to her by her pre-assimilation name.
Following the death of Captain Shaw, Seven assumed command of the Titan-A, as per his recorded final wish. The ship got a new name, the Enterprise-G, and the “Picard” series concluded, hinting at a new spinoff featuring Ryan. “Star Trek: Picard” showrunner, Terry Matalas, was quite open about using the last episode to hint at another “Star Trek” spinoff, tentatively titled “Star Trek: Legacy.” Post-Picard, a significant number of fans and “Picard” actors rallied Paramount to greenlight “Legacy,” suggesting it be set on the Enterprise-G. Despite the enthusiasm, “Legacy” remains a dream for many. Ryan, however, was keen to be part of “Legacy.”
At a 2024 “Star Trek” convention in Texas, as reported by TrekMovie, Ryan disclosed that she was once considered for reprising her role as Captain Seven of Nine in another “Star Trek” spinoff that was not “Legacy.” Unfortunately, she could not provide further details other than that the offer had been made.

Due to the confidentiality of modern production houses, Ryan was restricted from discussing the specifics of the unknown “Star Trek” project she was offered. All we know is that she was approached but seemed unsure about it. Ryan’s exact words regarding the potential Captain Seven show were:
“There has been talk. And there was an idea that was actually pitched to me after ‘Picard’ ended — which was not the ‘Legacy’ show that I know the fans are asking for — that I want to do. But it just wasn’t me […] It didn’t feel like the right kind of thing […] But there has been talk. And if there is one thing I have learned with this franchise it is: never say never. You never know.”
The period from 2017 to 2023 saw an abundance of new “Star Trek” shows, courtesy of the launch of the Paramount+ streaming service. At one point, six “Star Trek” series were on air simultaneously. However, production has since reduced, with most of those “Star Trek” shows having been canceled (only “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and the upcoming “Starfleet Academy” are confirmed future projects). Despite this, Paramount continues working on new “Star Trek” projects, suggesting there may have been a concept they preferred over “Star Trek: Legacy.” Ryan seems to be in a dilemma between reviving “Legacy” and participating in the mystery project.
Interestingly, even executive producer Alex Kurtzman expressed interest in greenlighting “Legacy,” but clarified that the decision was not his to make. Currently, Trekkies are awaiting the conclusion of “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and the launch of “Section 31” to get a glimpse of what the future holds for “Star Trek.”
