This awards season, Jesse Eisenberg has been the talk of the town, thanks to his critically acclaimed film A Real Pain. Not only did he star with Kieran Culkin, but he also wrote and directed the film.

During a recent episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, Eisenberg opened up about the one role that he believes had a negative impact on his career.

According to Eisenberg, his role in the 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a DC Universe film that was widely criticized, significantly affected his career.
Just to remind you, Eisenberg played the role of Lex Luthor, the archenemy of Superman, in the film, and he sported a full head of hair for the role.
In his conversation with Dax Shepard, Eisenberg mentioned, “I was in this Batman movie, and it was widely panned, and so was I,”.
“It’s a bit embarrassing to admit, but I genuinely think it actually hurt my career in a real way, because I was poorly received in something so public.”
“If you’re in a huge movie and not seen as good, those who are deciding who to cast in their next movie are less likely to choose you,” Eisenberg explained, adding that he’s also had roles in “poorly received things that just don’t see the light of day, and for the most part, no one knows.”
“But this was so public, and since I don’t read notices or reviews or movie press, I was unaware of how poorly it was received.”
Despite the criticism, Eisenberg insists that he “loved” the movie. “So I feel just myself to blame,” he added. “I’m not blaming anyone else. I guess I did something wrong there. And so it did feel like I had to climb out again.”
“It was depressing, but I’m depressed all the time in some ways. Just like, ‘Oh, yeah, of course, I had this great opportunity. Of course, it didn’t go well.’ Just pessimism.”
