Billy Bob Thornton’s Hopes for Landman Season 2
Billy Bob Thornton isn’t ready to leave the patch behind just yet.
The Landman actor, 69, told Entertainment Weekly that he is hopeful about shooting a second season of Taylor Sheridan’s high stakes oil drama — and even shared a glimpse into its potential filming schedule.
“I understand that if we’re going to do that, season 2, that it’s going to be sometime around February, March, somewhere in there,” Thornton explained in an August interview about the series for EW’s Fall TV Preview. “I mean, we’ll see. It just depends on how the chips may fall, you never know in this business. But if we do it, I think [we’re] going to try to do it around that.”
Potential Renewal and Thornton’s Enthusiasm
At time of publication, Landman has yet to be officially greenlit for a second season by Paramount+. Still, Thornton noted at the time that he’d be game to put on Tommy’s cowboy boots once again if given the chance.
“I sure hope so, because I had a fun time on this one and it’d be a nice one to do,” he said about a potential season 2. “I mean, you’d kind of like to at least do a couple of something to get people used to it.”
Representatives for Paramount+ did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment about a season 2 on Friday.

Potential Storylines for Landman Season 2
A second season of Landman would be invaluable in helping to answer the many burning questions left over from its dramatic season finale, which aired on Sunday. Not only was it heavily implied that Monty (Jon Hamm) died after suffering an aortic aneurysm, but his wife Cami’s (Demi Moore) plan to strike it rich one last time before selling oil company M*Tex was just getting started. Heck, they hadn’t even had time to draw up the paperwork yet!
And that’s not even including how the cartel seemed interested in diversifying their income by striking it rich in the oil business, too. What’s a landman (well, now M*Tex president) to do in such strange and uncertain circumstances? Tommy will surely need at least another season to figure it out.
It also helps that Landman — which also stars Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Jacob Lofland — has exploded in popularity since it debuted on Paramount+ in November. The series has gone on to become the streamer’s No. 1 original series of all time, with a December press release stating that it reached 14.9 million households in its first four weeks.
Landman’s season finale is streaming now on Paramount+.
