Lily Allen is refuting claims of returning a rescue dog after it consumed her and her children’s passports, denouncing the media coverage of the incident as “intentionally distorted.”
The singer elaborated on her perspective and urged individuals to refrain from sending her “highly offensive messages, including death threats,” in a statement she shared on X over the weekend.
Allen commenced by quoting her Miss Me? podcast, where she initially discussed the decision to part ways with the adopted pet. “We put in a lot of effort and time,” she stated, “but the passports incident was the final straw.”
She further expressed in her statement, “This is the segment of the podcast that the tabloids opted not to include in their reports on me ‘abandoning my puppy.’ People have been reacting vehemently to a deliberately distorted compilation of quotes aimed at provoking anger, resulting in me receiving extremely offensive messages, including death threats. Some of the most repugnant comments have inundated my social media platforms, and unfortunately, this was expected as this is precisely the purpose of those articles.”
Allen discussed her intention to adopt a Chihuahua mix during the latest episode of the podcast, prompting her to reminisce about her experience with a rescue dog she took in during the pandemic.
“The dog devoured all three of our passports, which contained our visas,” Allen revealed. “The cost of replacing everything during the COVID period was exorbitant, leading to a logistical nightmare.”
Currently residing in the U.S. with her husband, actor David Harbour, Allen’s daughters’ father, Sam Cooper, resides in England. The absence of their passports prevented the children from reuniting with their father for several months, all due to the dog’s passport-eating incident.
In her statement, Allen shared, “We adopted our puppy Mary from a shelter in NY and cherished her deeply, but she developed severe separation anxiety and exhibited various behavioral issues. She couldn’t be left alone for more than 10 minutes. Despite our efforts, including multiple walks and consultations with experts, it was concluded that our home wasn’t the best environment for Mary.”
