Exclusive Insights into Cinematography Techniques
In an exclusive interview with Variety for Inside the Frame, Lol Crawley shared his reasoning behind using the rare VistaVision format for shooting Brady Corbet’s film. He revealed that this format allowed him to pull the film horizontally across eight perforations at a time, offering a larger format and more flexibility with lens choices. This technique was famously used by Alfred Hitchcock in his classics “To Catch a Thief” and “Vertigo”. Crawley believes such techniques were instrumental in attracting audiences back to the cinema in the age of television.
