New Features Coming to Minecraft in 2025 Update

With the decorations packed away for another 12 months and the new year now well and truly begun, developer Mojang has roused from its festive slumber to release six new features for public testing ahead of Minecraft’s first planned update of 2025.

Mojang’s New Approach to Minecraft Updates

Mojang announced a change in its approach to releasing new Minecraft content last September. Instead of the traditional mega-sized summer updates, the company is now opting for multiple smaller drops throughout the year. This new strategy aims to keep players engaged with more frequent updates. Mojang has detailed a number of features that will be launching in Minecraft’s first update of 2025.

Exciting New Additions

The upcoming update introduces two new pig variants – the cold pig and warm pig. These variants are designed to complement the standard pig that has been in the game for 15 years. The cold pig can be found in sub-zero biomes, while the warm pig is located in sandy biomes.

In addition to the new pig variants, forest biomes are receiving an upgrade with three ambient features: falling leaves, leaf litter, and wildflowers. Falling leaves can be seen in all forest biomes, while leaf litter is exclusive to dark forests and wooded badlands. Players can use leaf litter to decorate other blocks.

Wildflowers are another new addition, found in meadows and birch forests. These flowers can be crafted into dye and come in yellow and white varieties. Players can speed up the growth stages of wildflowers using bonemeal, and they will bloom in different patterns based on how they are placed.

Enhancements in Forest Biomes

The forest biomes in Minecraft’s next update will feature falling leaves, leaf litter, and wildflowers to create a more immersive environment for players. Falling leaves add a touch of realism to the game, while leaf litter can be used for decorative purposes. Wildflowers brighten up meadows and birch forests, offering new crafting possibilities for players.

Upcoming Changes to Lodestones

Lodestones, the magnetized blocks that assist players in navigating by attracting compasses, will have a new, simpler crafting recipe in the next Minecraft update.

Public Testing and Availability

All the new features mentioned are set to arrive in Minecraft’s next update. However, they are currently available for public testing to allow adventurous players to explore and provide feedback. These additions can be accessed via Minecraft’s latest Java snapshot, and most features are already available in the Bedrock preview and beta versions. The leaf litter and wildflowers will be added to Bedrock soon. For more information on accessing Minecraft’s test builds, visit Mojang’s website.
