Exploring the Inspiration Behind “Neptunes”
On the track “Neptunes,” Goddard pays homage to the influential production partnership of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. However, Smith interprets the title differently, finding cosmic inspiration in it. She shared, “I loved what the rhythm made me feel when I first heard it. I actually thought he was tapping into Neptune as a planet, and the qualities I felt it possesses. So my side of things brought out more space-themed sounds as a result.”
