Ready Player Me’s Web2 avatar technology is actively utilized by over 4,000 developers, including VRChat, Spatial, and HiberWorld, with millions of end-users who can customize their avatars for various applications.

According to Timmu Tõke, CEO of Ready Player Me, PlayerZero is dedicated to establishing consistent and interoperable digital identities, reshaping the potential of avatars and wearable collectibles in a connected metaverse.

“We’ve laid the groundwork for interoperability. PlayerZero is a platform designed for gamers to create avatars and seamlessly jump into games. It serves as the central hub for the player experience,” said Tõke. “We launched it in October with a drop of our open mint NFTs on Base.”

A new approach to digital identity

PlayerZero aims to allow users to carry their avatars everywhere.

Developing a seamless user experience in Web3 took time, as mentioned by Tõke. The goal of PlayerZero is to lead the transformation of digital identity concepts. The platform enables users to create highly customizable avatars, expressing their uniqueness through hairstyles, outfits, accessories, and cosmetics. These avatars are designed to move with users across various games and virtual experiences, ensuring a consistent identity across different worlds, thanks to the Web3 functionality.

In recent months, there has been a surge in demand for interoperability and open persistence in the broader business landscape, according to Tõke. The company generates revenue by selling wearables to players who enjoy personalizing their avatars, akin to purchasing clothes in real life. Looking ahead, Tõke envisions scaling up through collaborations with influencers and streamers.

“PlayerZero focuses on empowering users to control their digital presence,” said Tõke. “A carefully curated digital identity shouldn’t be confined to a single platform. We bridge the gap between isolated ecosystems, enabling users to carry their avatars and unique traits across multiple games and virtual worlds, ensuring their identity remains theirs, regardless of the environment.”

Increased avatar usage in virtual worlds

Gen Z and Gen Alpha players are dressing up their avatars frequently.

Tõke believes that digital identities have taken center stage, particularly among Gen Z, and PlayerZero is meeting the rising demand for customizable avatars in multiple virtual worlds.

He highlighted that 40% of Gen Z players update their avatars monthly, as per Roblox/Parsons. Additionally, 84% of Gen Z players consider digital fashion increasingly crucial for self-expression.

As users spend more time in games and virtual worlds, the necessity for cross-platform compatibility and interoperable identities intensifies. With PlayerZero, users are not just creating avatars; they are constructing evolving digital identities seamlessly integrating into the games and worlds they engage with, according to Tõke.

Collect and level up with rare digital items

Ready Player Me is facilitating Web3 avatars through its collections of NFTs.

An essential aspect of PlayerZero is its integration of digital collectibles. Users can enhance and level up their avatars by acquiring rare items such as clothing, accessories, and other personal characteristics. These collectibles not only boost customization but also offer users a deeper sense of ownership and progression.

The launch of Collection ZERO showcased the effectiveness of this model, with 81,000 NFTs minted and items instantly usable in supported games, stated Tõke. This collection laid the groundwork for upcoming releases, blending accessibility with functionality.
