Mesmerizing the world with his artistic prowess, eminent Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki staged his triumphant return with the internationally acclaimed movie, “Fallen Leaves”. This laureate of the 2023 Cannes Jury Prize swept the globe between 2020 and 2023, with one of the most astonishing successes in Nordic film history.

The intriguing question is – how did this arthouse film transcend the traditional film market boundaries to ensnare a wider audience from parts of the world as far-flung as Taiwan, Norway, and Czech Republic? And how did it manage to position Kaurismäki as a trending sensation in the realm of social media?

This intrigue was unraveled on August 22 in the ‘Europa Distribution panel,’ under the title, “Around the World in 80 Minutes: The Distribution and Promotion of Nordic Films Internationally.” New Nordic Films of Haugesund, Norway hosted the much-anticipated panel discussion.

One of the notable segments from the three-day Nordic market event was the Europa Distribution panel. It was moderated by industry veteran Petri Kemppinen, who is the founder of Good Hand Production and also a highly esteemed consultant at Totalpost, a post-production house in Finland. He is also the co-head of TV Beats at the Baltic Event.
