After devoting over five years to Perreo Pesado, the beginning of Puentes’ solo career was a product of pure intuition. In 2016, following a slew of Instagram DM’s to PXXR GVNG, the Spanish rap group finally relented and let her DJ the Mexican leg of their world tour — a collaboration which would ultimately culminate in five years touring together.
Travelling the World on PXXR GVNG’s Bus
Puentes took advantage of tour dates to book solo gigs and build her name in cities around the world, an opportunity that granted her a new perspective on her relationship with music. “Coming from a background with limited opportunities and suddenly having so many doors opened for me, I began to feel a responsibility towards the scenes that I came from,” she asserts. Puentes’ understanding of the music industry also deepened, each positive and negative experience as valuable as the other, consolidating in the way she conducts herself today.
