Season 12 Costumes: Goo, Leaf Sheep, and More

Published:

A new season of The Masked Singer always means a whole new batch of costumes to obsess over.

With its 12th season though, the show is taking things up a notch. For the first time ever, clues to each masked celebrity’s identity are everywhere, and this includes the costumes. In some instances, the costume itself is a general clue to the singer’s true self, and in others the clues are sewed directly into the disguise itself.

So, hone your best eagle eyes and ready those magnifying glasses as you sort through the season 12 costumes, which Entertainment Weekly is rounding up below. And be sure to check back, as this story will be updated as more costumes are revealed for the new episodes, which start airing on Fox on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Goo

EW is exclusively debuting this green concoction, which is just oozing charm. When the costume was first teased in a promo, we thought maybe this costume was actually a Booger mask, but it’s snot. Instead, Goo is a real slime ball. Has anyone checked to see if the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards is missing any of their trademark neon sludge?

Strawberry Shortcake

She’s short and she’s sweet — oh please, please, please could this be Sabrina Carpenter? Jokes aside, Strawberry Shortcake has the distinct honor of being the season’s first food costume revealed so far. A food-related mask has not yet won The Masked Singer, so here’s to hoping she can beat the foodie curse and that the audience just eats her up.

Leaf Sheep

Let us save you the Google search: Yes, the Leaf Sheep is a real creature. In fact, it’s a type of little-known sea slug. Leaf Sheep joins last season’s Poodle Moth as being among one of the most unique (and confusing) costumes in the show’s history. Additionally, promo clips of the character make it seem rather large, which could mean absolutely nothing at all or could mean there’s more than one person inside. Stay tuned.

Woodpecker

Hopefully there are no Tree costumes this season. Wood’s famous nemesis is looking extra sharp between her fly boots and gloves and feather-made black and red dress. Woodpecker joins an elite rank of successful avian costumes on the show — think Black Swan, Flamingo, Peacock. Let’s see if they can soar just as high.

Ship

If Ship’s performance of “Pompeii” by Bastille is any indication, this celebrity should have smooth sailing straight to the finale. As far as navigating their identity goes, perhaps this singer is someone who had something to do with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, or other similar ship-heavy properties.

Chess Piece

Will the celebrity under this mask have the audience screaming checkmate or stalemate? Only time will tell, but the costume itself feels like a real queen’s gambit. In fact, we can hear Ken Jeong guessing Anya Taylor-Joy already.

Dust Bunny

EW spies with our little eye many, many clues embedded in this costume, because like a true dust bunny, it collects a little bit of everything! Can you spot them all?

Buffalo

Giddy up, y’all! Buffalo looks poised to take on the wild rodeo that is The Masked Singer. The question is, if this costume is a clue, did the person behind the mask play a cowboy or star in a Western of some kind? Or have they played for one of the many Buffalo sports teams or are connected to someone who did?
