Sonic Team’s Commitment to Last-Gen Systems
Sonic Team is dedicated to ensuring that its games remain accessible on last-gen systems for as long as possible. Producer Takashi Iizuka shared in an interview with IGN that he aims for Sonic games to reach a wide audience, despite the capabilities of more advanced systems to showcase the speed of Sonic in newer games.
Supporting High-End and Lower Spec Consoles
“As a market, we have the high-end machines, high-end consoles,” Iizuka explained. With the release of new consoles, Sonic games have the opportunity to demonstrate Sonic’s speed and enhance the gaming experience with improved UI. However, Iizuka emphasized the importance of supporting lower spec consoles to allow a broader user base to continue enjoying Sonic games.
While some players view the recently unveiled PS5 Pro as expensive, Iizuka believes that for the quality it offers, the cost is justified, especially for high-end game users.
