Sony Music Publishing Promotes Katie Welle to President of U.S. A&R
Sony Music Publishing has recently announced the promotion of Katie Welle to president, head of U.S. A&R, effective February 1. Welle, previously the senior vice president of creative for the company, will be taking over from Walter Jones, who is departing from Sony Music Publishing.
Katie Welle’s New Role
In her new position, Welle will be leading the creative team to attract top talent and create more opportunities for songwriters globally. Based in the company’s Los Angeles office, she will be reporting to Sony Music Publishing Chairman/CEO Jon Platt.

Welle has closely collaborated with many SMP songwriters, including Charlie Handsome, Theron Thomas, Tyler, the Creator, Clams Casino, and Mikky Ekko. Her latest signings to SMP include hitmakers Tyler Johnson and Julian Bunetta.
Decades of Experience
Welle brings two decades of experience in Sony Music Group’s A&R departments. She began as an A&R assistant at Epic Records in 2005, eventually rising to vice president of creative at Sony Music Publishing (formerly Sony/ATV) and senior VP of A&R at RCA, before returning to Sony Music Publishing as senior VP of creative in 2020.
