Spirit Media, the media company established by the acclaimed “Baahubali” actor Rana Daggubati, has successfully secured the Indian distribution rights for the Cannes film festival awardee “All We Imagine as Light,” directed by Payal Kapadia.
The debut narrative film by Kapadia sets the scene in Mumbai, focusing on two women’s lives. Prabha, a struggling nurse, receives an unpredicted present from her distant husband, while Anu, her youthful roommate, is on a quest for a personal space with her boyfriend. Their journey to a seashore town presents an opportunity to express their hidden desires. The film features performances from Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon.
Kapadia explained, “The movie explores friendship among three diverse women. More often, women are seen as rivals, but in my view, friendship plays a significant role as it fosters solidarity, inclusiveness, and empathy.”
The movie, commanding attention at Cannes earlier this year, took home the Grand Prix. Jessica Kiang from Variety lauded the film as “a radiant depiction of urban camaraderie and sisterhood” and added, “Rarely has a movie encapsulated the solitary charm of Mumbai under the twinkling night sky so elegantly.”
