In this article, we delve into Tommy Holohan’s latest EP, ‘Temple Theatre’, released through Steel City Dance Discs. The EP features five distinct tracks that showcase Holohan’s versatility as an artist, exploring genres ranging from garage and breakbeat to jungle, trance, and house.

Holohan’s Musical Evolution

Lead single ‘Show Me The Sky’, a collaboration with Megra from Stockholm, exemplifies Holohan’s sonic evolution, combining euphoric rave energy with an addictive garage bassline. The EP’s title track channels trance energies with chanting sequences, rave stabs, and a pulsating breakdown, while ‘Make Me Feel’ offers a breakbeat-driven experience.

‘Lovin Arms’ Variations

The EP also includes two versions of ‘Lovin Arms’ – the ‘Warehouse Mix’ featuring a fast-paced drum sequence and orchestral breakdown, and the ‘Jungle Mix’ with vocals over a broken-beat backdrop.

Reflecting on his inspiration, Holohan shares, “‘I was listening to Mauro Picotto mixes trying to find some new track IDs when I came across one from Temple Theatre in 1999. Trance had Ireland in a chokehold back then and got me thinking how I can bring some of Dublin’s history into the new age.”

Exploring Dublin’s Musical Landscape

Holohan believes trance is ingrained in Irish culture, evident in the music of Clannad and Enya. ‘Temple Theatre’ by Tommy Holohan is now available through Steel City Dance Discs for listeners to enjoy.
