The Braxton family, consisting of Toni Braxton, her sisters Trina, Towanda, Tamar, and their mother Evelyn, are making a comeback to the reality TV scene with their latest show, The Braxtons. The second episode is set to air tonight, with VIBE providing a sneak peek of an exclusive clip.
This new series focuses on the women coming together and dealing with the loss of their sister, Traci. Fans are given a candid and unfiltered glimpse into the family’s ups and downs. In the upcoming episode titled “Healing Takes Time,” the five women sit down with a grief counselor, and emotions surge as they grapple with the weight of Traci’s absence.
As the oldest sibling, Toni expresses her feelings of anger rather than sadness, particularly in relation to her own health issues.
“Before Traci passed, I was kinda angry at God,” confessed the “Breathe Again” singer. “Why would God take her? I thought it was unfair. It’s unfair that Traci’s the one that’s sick. The one that dying, and I have lupus because I felt like I was the one that was gonna die first.”
Toni admits to using her music as a form of self-therapy, but she yearns to return to the time “just before” her career skyrocketed. “The innocence in it? It soothes me. It gives me inner peace because I was hungry. It was innocent. I’m so beyond grateful for what I have, but going back to a time in my life before I made it makes me feel at peace.”
She attributes this to having “less responsibilities” and “more hope for the future.” The 56-year-old artist recognizes the need to process her grief while also being kind to herself, and she seems willing to figure out how to balance both.
We TV hinted that one family member “leaves therapy unexpectedly,” leading to “tensions to flare” and ultimately, Mama Evelyn steps in. Throughout the series’ eight episodes, The Braxton women each navigate their personal lives while trying to honor Traci’s final wish of strengthening their family bond.
The musical family’s return to TV comes three years after they concluded their successful series, Braxton Family Values, which ran for seven seasons.
The Braxtons’ second episode is set to premiere on Friday, Aug. 16, at 9:30 pm ET/PT on We TV. All episodes will also be available for streaming on ALLBLK.
