Anonymous Content Executives Discuss Future Plans and Projects
On the second day of the fourth annual Iberseries & Platino Industria event in Madrid, top executives from the renowned production company, Anonymous Content, and its Spanish and Brazilian joint ventures graced the stage. Anonymous Content, known for its acclaimed projects such as True Detective, Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer, Spotlight, and The Revenant, was represented by its international director, Jacobo Aparicio, and the CEO and managing director of its Brazilian and Spanish ventures, Barbara Teixeira and Beatriz Campos respectively.
Anonymous Content’s Strategy and Development Plans
During a spotlight session, Aparicio, Teixeira, and Campos discussed their strategy and development plans. The session was moderated by the author of this article. Anonymous Content Brazil is a joint venture with RT Features, backed financially by the Hollywood talent agency CAA. On the other hand, Anonymous Content Spain is a joint venture with Morena Films.
Beatriz Campos on Anonymous Content Spain’s Plans
Campos, who has only been in her role for a few months, shared that they have two films and four TV series in development. Most of these projects are in Spanish, with the exception of one international English-language project. She explained that they took on the English-language project because they loved the concept. Despite the challenges of English-language projects, the story, set in Spain’s Civil War, has a very organic international approach. Campos emphasized that it made sense to tell this story and they are trying to put it together with their U.S. partners.
Barbara Teixeira on Anonymous Content Brazil’s Projects
Teixeira, on the other hand, highlighted two previously announced projects from AC Brazil. Their first scripted project, a TV adaptation of Raphael Montes’ bestseller Perfect Days, and a documentary series about Brazilian soccer star Sócrates, both for Globoplay, the streaming service of industry giant Globo Brazil.
Perfect Days: A Big Thriller
The eight-episode Perfect Days, directed by Joana Jabace (Precious Pearl) and written by Claudia Jouvin (The Nightshifter), tells the story of Clarice (Julia Dalavia), a carefree screenwriter who playfully kisses awkward medical student Téo to annoy her college boyfriend. However, the joke turns into a nightmare when Téo becomes obsessed and kidnaps her, taking her on a road trip across Rio de Janeiro. Teixeira referred to it as “a big thriller.”
The Sócrates Project: More Than Just an Athlete’s Biography
The Sócrates project will also portray the soccer star as a very prominent political figure. Teixeira shared that it’s a very human story, more than an athlete’s biography, as only Walter Salles could tell it. Salles’ I’m Still Here was recently selected as Brazil’s contender for the best international feature Oscar. They are very excited about the project.
Anonymous Content’s International Joint Ventures
Aparicio described the goal of Anonymous Content’s international joint ventures, which also include the U.K., France, and the Nordics, as being able to reach not just the U.S. audience, but a global audience. They encourage local offices to be ambitious in their storytelling, take risks, dare, and aim for something truly special.
The Impact of the COVID Pandemic and the Dual Hollywood Strikes
Aparicio argued that the COVID pandemic and the dual Hollywood strikes have opened audiences’ eyes to new content from more parts of the world. He concluded by saying that these stories have been the ones that have really resonated.
